Seed producers often promise "golden mountains", but sometimes it does not grow at all. Therefore, it is much more useful to learn about the successes of ordinary gardeners, who managed to grow a crop worthy of attention, to take note of the varieties and secrets.
The tomato season is in full swing, and in our group of amateur tomato growers they share the success of the current season with might and main. So, it's time to look for the varieties for the next year and discuss all the subtleties of their cultivation with those who have already achieved considerable success.
All photos and notes about tomatoes of different varieties in this material belong to real people. They may not coincide with promotional photos and descriptions of varieties offered by seed producers and agrofirms.

Very high and powerful bushes (above 2 m), best of all grow in the greenhouse, are formed in two stalks. All fruits are uniformly large, not prone to disease, sweet. But with different manufacturers you can find this variety with red and pink color. Despite the difference in color, the sizes of the tomatoes do not change and reach 800 g for the first fruits and 500 for the latter on the bush.

In bright pink large-fruited tomatoes there are few seeds. The variety is very productive and resistant to bad weather. Even in a rainy and cold summer, a few kilograms of fruit can be harvested from a bush, and in good weather tens of kilograms are counted. It grows in the open and in the ground, formed in two trunks. The only negative is that the seeds are sometimes tug-like.

In the greenhouse, bushes of this variety grow above 2 m, and in the open field - up to one and a half. Juicy fruits are good for salads, but their skin is hard. In the hot summer will be sweet, and in rainy weather - with sour. Regardless of the temperature, the fruits are huge, although the claimed kilogram almost does not reach. But the size of the fruit and on the upper hands remains.

“Bears” have different colors and they all produce fruits of 800-1000 g, and there are also unique ones up to one and a half kg. Only salad, of course, but you can eat together with one tomato. Almost do not get sick, bear fruit until the beginning of October. It is better to grow in a high greenhouse, because the bushes are very powerful and need space.

Fruits grow large, but not more than a dozen on a bush. They begin to mature rather late (compared to others), often crack at the stem and are very poorly preserved. Suitable for the preparation of salads and juices, and grow in the greenhouse and in the open field. You can form in 2-4 stalks, but be sure to tie up.

The seeds are tight (2-3 seeds grow out of 5), the bushes grow large, form them into 2 stems. Unfortunately, the fruits, though large, often with an inexpressive taste, with a firm base and soft skin. Good, rather, their appearance and unusual divorces in the pulp, than taste.

Bushes up to 2.5 m, the largest fruits - more than 700 g. They form bushes of 1-2 stems and be sure to tie them to supports. The fruits are tasty, sugary and very abundant. 8 buckets can be removed from 20 bushes - and this is not the limit in a good summer.

The variety is prone to cracking and uneven ripening, but you can forgive anything for its taste. Bushes in the greenhouse grow to 1.8 m, form them in 1-2 stems, often watering or mulching. The peel of the fruit is thin, easily damaged, the pulp is sugary and very fragrant.

Begins to bear fruit one of the first, ends already in the cold, while it is very resistant to disease. Fruits gain an average of 600 g, and they are very tasty and fragrant. Green tomatoes are well proportioned, and the bushes can be grown in open ground, though, then they will be just over a meter tall.

Attracts not only size, but also an unusual shape, and yield. Like many large-fruited, not too deadly, you need to eat or process quickly, because the skin is thin. The flesh is tender, sugary, but with the wrong care from the stalk, a white dense stem grows in the center, which feels like unripe pulp. On the first racemes, the fruit is 700-900 g, then gradually shrink to 300 g
Tips for growing large-fruited tomatoes
Do you like huge tomatoes? Then read the tips of the experienced tomato grower Yuri Kuzminyh on how to grow huge tomatoes competently and effortlessly.
"There is no gardener who would not have dreamed of growing the biggest pumpkin, zucchini, tomato or other vegetable."
Variety or hybrid?
In fact, larger fruits are always juicier and tastier. What determines the large-fruited tomato? Of course, this is first and foremost a grade. Hybrid tomatoes do not have such sizes. There is no such task. Although there are individual representatives that grow to very large sizes.
All clear. Chose a large-fruited variety and began to grow. But often the result is far from expected. Why?
First about the varieties. I have a few tomatoes that can produce fruits weighing closer to 1 kg or more:
- Sprint Timer;
- The giant of Belgium;
- Bulgarian miracle;
- Bullish Fish Lake Heart;
- Pink Brigadel;
- Armenian bicolor.
In these varieties laid large-fruited, which means that the result will depend only on you and me. To get really big results, besides the usual recommendations, you need to understand three things:
- If you can develop a good root system, then half the work has already been done.
- The crop needs to be shaped.
- Without quality nutrition, the tomato will not reach the size declared by the manufacturer.
Proper root development
First, let's deal with the root system. Here you need to start with seedlings and go on the increase, so that the growth of new roots went constantly, without stopping.
At the seedling stage, it is important to remember about drying, because at this time the roots try to find all the drops of moisture in the cup, which means they grow. It is also necessary to carry out two or three transshipments to more spacious pots, otherwise the root growth will slow down, and then it will be more difficult to give a new push.
When landing in the ground is important warm soil, and at the maximum possible depth. In cold soil (in spring even in a greenhouse it is always cold), the growth of roots is minimal, and the stem in warm air continues to grow, and an imbalance in development occurs - the top surpasses the bottom.
Now something important about watering, more precisely about its absence. Watering the tomatoes only needs to be done once - while planting seedlings at a permanent place, and then you should forget about the watering can. As the moisture recedes from the upper layers of the soil, the roots will actively grow in the sides and downwards (again, if the soil is warm, they will not climb cold, and the plant will simply wilt).
For tomatoes of large-fruited varieties, especially in unfavorable spring weather, the first brushes are overloaded with a crop. This can lead to a standstill in the growth of the root system, which means it will deprive us of hopes for a rich and prolonged fruiting of the bush.
- Reserves of tomato yield - how to change in their favorHow to get more tomatoes than usual, without changing the number of bushes and the size of the greenhouse? An experienced tomato grower Yuri Kuzminykh tells.
To avoid this, you need to leave only 3-4 fruits on the first hand, and make it on time. As soon as small ovaries appear on the bush, cut off any excess with scissors without pity.
Doubt the effectiveness of this method? Conduct an experiment:
- Plant three plants of one large-fruited variety.
- At the first plant, remove the entire ovary on the first brush.
- Remove the first and second brushes from the second one.
- And leave the third as is.
- Look at which plant will be the largest fruits.
Now, when a powerful root system, like a pump, supplies the tomato with moisture and nutrition, it only remains to make one large and high-quality fruit. What? Provide tomato a full set of nutrients.
After all, without food, the plant will have nothing to feed and fill the fruit, which means that instead of a tomato in 800 g, you will receive 300 g from a force.
The scheme of transformation of nitrogen into nutrients
Any fruit is primarily proteins, which are composed of amino acids and are formed only in the presence of nitrogen. It is at the time of the growth of the fruit bush should be actively fed with nitrogen and other nutrients. Without complex fertilizers, the bush will starve and will not give the desired result.
