Coconut mulch - the secrets of using modern eco-friendly material

Mulchagram - covering material from coconut fibers. Many gardeners have already appreciated its useful qualities, so we will figure out what the advantage of such mulch is, how to use it correctly and what it is worth being ready for during its lifetime.

Coconut fibers are compressed under high pressure, after which a dense, breathable material is formed. It is produced in the form of mats or circles of different sizes, which is convenient to use for almost all country plants. Flower garden, garden, vegetable garden - mulchagram is useful everywhere! A model for growing seedlings and indoor plants is also available.

Even novice gardeners will cope with the installation of such material. The only thing you need to consider is that as the plant grows it will grow, so it is important to make the central hole in the mulch-ram wide enough, taking into account the future size of the trunk or stem.

Advantages of coconut mulch

Coconut mulch has so many advantages that you can talk about them for a long time. Major we have compiled a list. So, mulchagram has the following advantages:

  • completely consists of natural materials, by production glue, paint, varnish or chemical impregnations is not used;
  • passes air and moisture;
  • protects plants from drying out, cold, weathering of the soil;
  • inhibits the growth of weeds;
  • accelerates and increases fruiting;
  • has a neutral pH;
  • as it deteriorates, it decomposes and improves the soil composition;
  • prevents the development of pathogenic bacteria.

Coconut mulch is great for flowers, trees and shrubs

You can also warm the trunks of trees for the winter with Mulchagram.

Landings will look aesthetically and well-groomed. You can either immediately plant the plants in the holes of the mulchagon or lay it under already grown crops. The material is easily cut with scissors, so the work will be a pleasure.

After laying mulchagram plants still need watering, fertilizing, pruning and other care activities.

Coconut fiber mulch for growing strawberries (garden strawberries)

Mulchagram protects garden strawberries from weeds, slugs, gray rot and drying out. The berries will not lie on the ground, and they will be easier to collect. In addition, they will begin to ripen faster, and the fruiting period will last substantially. Snow-free winters will no longer damage plant roots. But in order to bring all this to life, you need to properly put the material!

It is best to plant strawberries directly on the mat of coconut fiber. To do this, clear the selected beds from weeds, prepare the soil and plants for planting. Then lay the mats and cut circles on them with a diameter of at least 10 cm at a distance of 30-40 cm. Plant the bushes directly into the prepared holes. Get a beautiful and neat bed!

The second option is to lay a mat on the ready-made beds. Cutting circles will not be easy, so just cut off the pieces of mulch ram and carefully place them between the bushes. Moisture and air will pass freely to the roots of plants, but slugs will not like this coating.

Coconut mulch for growing grapes

Grapes - heat-loving plant, so it is important to protect its roots from cold and waterlogging. Mulchagram will perfectly cope with this task! Before sheltering for the winter, cut the grapes and process with a 3% solution of Bordeaux mixture. Clean the soil near the bush from plant debris and gently lay the mulch around the trunk. It will not allow moisture to accumulate near the vine and protect the grapes from rotting. To enhance the warming effect, lay the mulchagr in several layers. Then cover the grapes using one of the selected technologies. In the spring, after taking shelter, do not remove mulch, it will continue to protect plants from pests, bacteria and weeds.

Thanks to the mulch from coconut fiber plants will feel comfortable, and you get a good and high-quality grape harvest.

Coconut mulch for growing roses

In winter and early spring, roses need protection from cold and vyprevaniya, and in the summer - from waterlogging and weeds. To cope with these problems will help mulchagram. You can use a circle or a mat of coconut fiber.

Before laying the mulch, remove the weeds, remove the leaves, burn the soil and treat it with Topaz, Fundazole or another fungicide.

If using a mat, make a hole in the center larger than the base of the rosebush. There is already a hole in the circle, if necessary, increase it to the desired size. Then lay a mulchagram on the soil near the bush. Make a cover for roses for the winter. Coconut mulch retains heat in the soil and protects the roots from the cold. Roses will no longer be threatened. Remove shelter in spring, but leave mulchagram. It will retain its properties for another three years, and then gradually dissolve in the soil and enrich it with useful substances.

In the summer, before laying the mulch, break the soil and remove the weeds. Then lay the material around the bush. Mulchagram will easily pass water and heat, slow down the evaporation of moisture. Through the use of such material the soil will not crust, and the roots will be protected from rotting.

Covering material from mulch is most often used for roses, grapes and strawberries, but it can also be used for vegetables.

Coconut mulch for growing vegetables

Mulchagram can also be used on beds in greenhouses and open ground. He will save tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers from fungal diseases, pathogens that inhabit the soil. In addition, it will be much easier to pick vegetables from the lower branches. Tomatoes can lie directly on the mulch and ripen without the risk of infection with rot. Due to the smaller impact of natural factors, mulchagram in greenhouse conditions can last longer than in the open air.

The disadvantages of coconut mulch

Many summer residents speak about the shortcomings of the use of mulchagram. Firstly, this material is rather expensive compared to straw or sawdust; it is not possible to find it in every store. If you aim to mumble a few beds with strawberries and a rose garden, you’ll get a pretty round sum.

Secondly, the material requires a careful attitude and does not tolerate strong physical impact. Walking on it or stepping feet is unacceptable if you want to increase the life of the mulch. But even with the most careful treatment, in 3-5 years the fiber will decompose, and the mulch will have to be replaced. Thirdly, it is not so easy to move mulch-grams to other beds, therefore it is better to immediately determine the place for laying. And, according to some summer residents, under the mulch-ram, mice, medars and some other soil pests feel comfortably, so it’s worthwhile to take care of protective measures in advance.
