Spring feeding peonies

Magnificent peony bushes will decorate your summer cottage for many years. But in order for these luxurious flowers to grow well and fully develop, they need competent spring dressings.

The first two years, young bushes may well do without mineral fertilizers. Substances important for growth, peonies are obtained from planting substrate consisting of garden soil, peat and rotted manure. In the first year is the build-up of the root system and green mass. During this period, foliar application is the priority.

Foliar top dressing

This method is used in calm weather - fertilizer is sprayed onto plants using a sprayer. The interval between feedings should be about 2 weeks. In total, foliar dressing includes 3 stages.

1. The first spraying is carried out after the appearance of the above-ground part of the pions, they are treated with a solution of Urea (50 g per 10 liters of water).

2. During the second spraying, a complex fertilizer with microelements is added to the Urea solution, diluting it according to the instructions. As a rule, it should be a less concentrated solution than for watering the plant at the root.

3. At the third spraying, the complex mineral fertilizer is dissolved in 10 l of water (according to the instructions). To stimulate rooting, the bushes are also watered with Heteroauxin (2 tablets per 10 liters of water). To improve the growth of young shoots use sodium humate (5 g per 10 liters of water) - it is added to the grooves around the bush. The buds that appeared in the first two seasons are removed so as not to interfere with the development of the roots.

Do not underestimate foliar nutrition.

Mineral top dressing

In the third year of life, the peony turns into a lush bush and begins to bloom colorfully. It is time to use mineral fertilizers for irrigation. Their number in the dry period is reduced, in rainy time - increase. For the spring-summer season, three complex supplements are enough.

1st stage - nitrogen-potassium fertilizer. Under one bush enough to make 10 g of nitrogen and 15 g of potassium. Fertilizers are carefully sprinkled around the bush, right along the snow islets. Combined with melt water, the necessary substances go to the roots.

2nd stage - Nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium top dressing (8-10 g of nitrogen, 15-20 g of phosphorus and 10-15 g of potassium). It is carried out in the period of tying the buds. Fertilizers are important for producing luxurious flowers.

3rd stage - introduction of phosphorus-potash fertilizers. Peonies need to be fed 15 days after the end of flowering with fertilizer containing 15-20 g of phosphorus and 10-15 g of potassium. Feeding is important for the emergence of kidney renewal, providing abundant flowering of peonies in the next year, and they also help to increase the winter hardiness of the bushes.

Top dressing is best combined with watering. To do this, you can use the popular liquid fertilizer with a short term. The dry granules, which lay in the hollows of the ground under the bushes, have proven themselves well. Peonies that have reached the age of 8 require a greater supply of minerals, the amount of which increases as the shrub matures.

Fertilizing organic

Organic fertilizers will allow peonies to bloom abundantly, organic matter is necessary for adult overgrown bushes that form an abundance of buds. To prepare a full feed, fresh mullein is diluted in water, a little bird droppings are added and left for about 10 days. The aged mixture is introduced, avoiding contact with the root collar, in special grooves dug around the shrub at a distance of 25 cm. It is enough to carry out one organic dressing per season (during the budding period).

Do not forget to feed your peonies on time. After all, this is one of the important factors of care, responsible for the abundant flowering of these beautiful plants.
