There are many varieties of hybrid tea roses in my garden, but I cannot use any of them for cutting - there are no long shoots and flowers in the form of a glass. What am I doing wrong?Anna Serekova, village Bolshoy Selo, Yaroslavl Region.

Answers Andrei Atamanenko, agronomist scientist, Moscow.

The first thing you need to choose the appropriate varieties. Recently, they have appeared on the market a lot - the most extraordinary. In the spring, even before the leaves bloom, the bushes should be fed with complex fertilizer, which consists of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and trace elements. The use of rotted manure and, above all, bird droppings gives a very good result.

Looking for foliar dressing. Plants are sprayed with a solution of trace elements - manganese, iron, boron. It is advisable to alternate top dressing - start from the root and in a few weeks conduct foliar leaves. And the first to apply organic fertilizer, and then - mineral. In the spring, be sure to cut off each shoot of a hybrid tea rose, leaving hemp no more than 10-15 cm high. This can cause a sharp growth of the bush. In such cases, leave more shoots.

I love roses very much and would like to create a hedge from them. But how to do that?Diana Dubko, Minsk.

For a start, it is important to choose plants of resistant varieties. And remember: all the necessary care - preventive treatments, feeding - must be organized clearly and on time.

Many years ago I planted a variety of floribunda red rose hedge Heinz winklerwhich blooms profusely throughout the season almost without interruption. It is resistant to diseases, the bushes are well branched. Planted them at a distance of 20 cm. After 2-3 years, when they gained strength, the bushes closed and formed a continuous flowering wall.

According to my observations, they feel great in such a landing. Bushes weed and mulch with peat (3-5 cm layer). This drowns out the growth of weeds. I water with warm water, I feed up with fertilizer of the prolonged action. Unfortunately, the Moscow region is a zone of risky farming: some rose bushes freeze after wintering. According to my observations, the average durability of the bush - about 7 years.

May is already in the yard, and my climbing rosette does not show any signs of life. What can I do with it, maybe I should cut it off?Dina Strubina, Pskov.

Answers Marina MARCHENKO, a member of the "Roses" section of the Moscow Florists Club.

If the rose does not wake up in spring, do not throw it away. In grafted roses from the site of vaccination, and in the root-rooted - from the root collar new shoots can go. Water several times under the root of the root stimulator, preferably warm (Kornevin, Heteroauxin), if there are surviving shoots, spray them with an antidepressant (Epin, NV-101, Ecogel). The rose can wake up in June-July.

Climbing large-flowered roses (climbing) bloom repeatedly. The main flowering occurs on short flowering shoots of the current year, departing from the old stems. In the spring, after warming up the soil, the shoots are pruned to the upper overwintered bud, too long overwintered branches are shortened, the lateral pruned to 2-3 buds. To rejuvenate the bush annually, starting from the 4th year of planting, 1-2 old shoots are cut out. In summer, flowered inflorescences with part of the stem are removed.

This year, despite the warm winter, many roses suffered, and the bushes of the Pope Meyam variety were completely dead. I know that in the summer it is imperative to do pruning, but after all the shoots have recently grown, some bushes do not bloom. Is it possible to do without trimming?
Lilia Zlotnichenko, Rzhev.

Answers Raisa Rudkovsky, collector of flower plants, Mogilev.

Ignoring the summer pruning of roses will still be a mistake. To make the bush beautiful, in July you need to pinch the shoots that have reached a length of 15-20 cm. Summer pruning is especially important in the first year of the rose. Cut out small thickening shoots that grow inward in root-bearing roses, in the vaccinated ones also grow back from the grafting site or root collar. Strongly growing shoots pinch.

The main task of summer pruning is to induce the plant to a new flowering. After pruning, I add a solution of complete complex mineral fertilizer (1 tbsp / 10 l of water) to the bushes, add the infusion of bird droppings (1:20). This is the last summer feeding with nitrogen.

For the first time I decided to try to plant roses. I know that experienced rose growers are vaccinated in winter. What is needed for this?
Catherine Losik, Novoaleksandrovsk.

Answers Victor Voytik, collector and connoisseur of flower plants, Grodno.

For winter grafting, I prepare cuttings of roses in late autumn and store them in the moss in the cellar. I usually cut them with 2-3 well developed kidneys. Under the kidney, I make an oblique cut, at the top - a straight line.

For stock, I take seedlings grown from wild rose seeds or rugoza rose (stem thickness about 8 mm). Two days before the vaccination, I bring them to the greenhouse and keep it at a temperature of 6-8 ° C. Twelve hours before the procedure I make cuttings. On a stock cut to a stump, I make a vertical cut and insert a cutting with an oblique cut down. It is important to observe sterility.

I tie up the inoculation, as usual. I slit open cuts with garden pitch. Graft and stock grow together at a temperature not lower than 18 ° C and moderate humidity. Therefore, I dig up the grafted plants, fold them on shelves with wet peat. Two weeks later in the kidneys, which are starting to grow, I see that the stock and graft have grown together. I plant grafted plants in containers and keep them at a temperature not lower than 10 ° C.

My hybrid tea rose (bush 50 cm) has an escaped shoot, but not from the root, but from the bush itself, approximately 1.75 m. Tell me, what should I do with it? How to distinguish wild shoots from cultivated?
Svetlana Novikova, Smolensk

Answers Elena SMIRNOVA, curator of the collection of roses at the Botanical Garden of the Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov.

You need to know what kind of rose you have - your own or rooted graft. If the root-own, it is definitely a cultural escape of a rose. If the rose is grafted, you need to look at the vaccination site (it is usually well marked).
If the sprout grows below the grafting site and has a pale green color and a lot of thorns, this is a rosehip sprout, and it should be cut at the very base. If it is higher than the vaccination site, then this is a cultural shoot (by the way, in hybrid tea roses, young shoots often have a reddish-beet color). At the end of summer, such shoots can reach impressive sizes and not bloom (they are also called fat), they also do not have time to mature for winter. At this time, it is better for them to cut the top half in half so that the plant does not spend strength on their growth and development, and before winter hilling, cut them at the base, as the underexposed parts of the shoots rot.
