General rules for the storage of fruits and berries
First, we dwell on the general rules for storing seasonal berries and fruits at home.
For example, did you know that you could not keep damaged (with cracked skin, sliced, etc.) and whole fruits together? The fact is that the former will necessarily accelerate the deterioration of the latter due to the increased emission of ethylene gas, which has such unusual properties. This gas has neither color nor odor, the person does not feel it, but the fruit is very much, as they will surely testify to you with a rapidly changing appearance.
By the way, about ethylene - among the berries and fruits there are real champions in its content - it is better to remove such copies away from the rest, if you, of course, do not have a goal to accelerate their ripening. Apples, pears, cantaloupe, apricots, bananas, figs, nectarine, peach - remember them and place them away from the rest, whether in a dining vase or in a refrigerator. And it is better to pack in a separate paper bag.
Now about the fridge. Almost all seasonal fruits can be stored in it without losing their quality (there are exceptions, we will talk about them below) - some for about a day, some even a week or longer. You only need to know the characteristics of each and even in the refrigerator to create the right storage conditions for him: someone “prefers” to be located with his neighbors, someone alone, someone will “require” even individual packaging, and someone is fairly ordinary shelf and etc.
The general rule is that fruits and berries in the fridge must be relieved of unnecessary detrimental dampness so that mold does not appear. Of course, they need to be positioned so that next to them, and even more so on them, nothing leaks and does not drip. You should not even wash the fruit (and even more tender berries!) Before sending it to cold storage. If we have already done this out of ignorance, before putting it in the refrigerator, be sure to dry each fruit with at least kitchen paper towels.
A plastic bag is not the best container for storing fruits and berries in the refrigerator, because it does not allow air, but it collects moisture on its inner surface. If there is no other way out, at least make a lot of holes in the bag before putting fruits in it for storage.
A good fridge for very ripe fruits - low temperature (albeit briefly) will help them not to go over the ripening and softening side for some time and remain fresh longer.
It is better to eat sliced fruit immediately, but if you have not eaten everything, send them to the refrigerator only in a separate airtight container for the reasons described above.
If in the general fruit compartment any one has managed to rot or grow moldy, it should be removed immediately, and the drawer and neighboring fruits should be thoroughly washed and dried before being sent to the refrigerator.
How to store apples
Apples, if you did not know, are beautifully stored without a refrigerator - they are usually put in there for very long storage or at the stage of over-ripeness.
Ordinary and slightly unripe fruits will feel great and just on the balcony or on the shelf in the kitchen, in a dry cool place - just to get away from the stove with its heat and steam, and out of direct sunlight.
Large apples are stored longer than small ones.
As we have already mentioned, apples emit a lot of ethylene, so it’s better to keep them away from other fruits and berries, preferably in a paper bag, a wooden box or a wicker basket, if in the fridge - then away from the freezer.
If your goal is to preserve seasonal apples at home as long as possible, you can wrap each of them with oiled parchment paper and lay them in layers in a crate with sawdust.
Summer apples most quickly deteriorate - their life in an apartment is about 10 days. Fruits of autumn varieties can be stored at room temperature for 2-4 months, and winter (the hardest and thick-skinned) - up to 7-8 months.

Sliced apples left on a plate, you can sprinkle with lemon juice - so the cut will not oxidize longer (will not darken).
How to store pears
To keep fresh pears, it is better to pick them from the tree slightly unripe and store them, like apples, in a dry cool place in a room away from the sun's rays. It can be a paper bag, basket or box where the fruit is laid out in layers, alternating with parchment paper or dry sawdust (straw, chips).
The most delicate part of the fruit, which is easily wrinkled under pressure - the flesh of the stalk. Therefore, when storing apples and pears you need to lay the stalk up.
It is recommended to send only soft, over-ripe fruits to the refrigerator for better preservation.
Just like apples, pears have different fruit storage periods for fresh fruit, depending on the variety: summer pears are stored the least (about two to three weeks), autumn ones are kept up to 2 months, and winter ones are kept up to 4 months.

How to store plums
All of the above is virtually unchanged and the storage of plums. To keep them fresh as long as possible, it is better to get slightly unripe fruits - they can be kept without loss of quality for a couple of days in a paper bag in a cool dry place.
If you have plums at the stage of full maturity, it is better to send them unwashed (and not wet!) To the fridge, if they are not too soft, so you can prolong their life up to 7-10 days.
How to store cherries and other berries

To preserve the harvest of berries longer, it must be placed in the cold as quickly as possible. And before putting it in storage in the fridge, prepare a vinegar “bath” for the berries. Dilute the vinegar with water in a ratio of 1: 3 and in this solution, wash the berries. Then they must be rinsed with clean water and dried, for example, on paper napkins. The prepared berry gently fold in a single layer in glass or plastic containers covered with paper and do not close tightly to ensure the evaporation of excess moisture.
Cranberries, gooseberries, cherries and cherries can be put in the refrigerator in large volumes and without acetic treatment - these berries should not be washed before storage. In addition, do not tear off the stem - with them the berries will be stored longer.
How to properly store peaches, nectarines, apricots
Peaches, nectarines and apricots (especially at the stage of full ripeness) are difficult to store - they easily crumple, do not tolerate crowding and lack of oxygen (for example, in a dense plastic bag).
Fruits collected or purchased before the final maturation, for the sake of preserving freshness, should be stored in a paper bag or in a special box with cells in a cool and dry place, in one layer.
Fully ripened apricots, peaches and nectarines are sent to the refrigerator - in a dry form and again in one layer, away from the freezer. At zero temperature, depending on the variety and storage conditions, the whole fruit can be stored for up to a month.
How to store grapes
Grapes - fruit, capricious in terms of storage. It should be stored in the refrigerator in the warmest place, and not for long, and only in individual plastic or paper bags with holes. In this case, the clusters must be dense, and the berries on them must be dense. Soft grapes are almost not stored at all - they should be eaten as quickly as possible.
There are also several ways to store grapes at room temperature. So, you can hang the brushes on the veranda or balcony, in a dry cool place on a rope under the ceiling, so that they do not touch each other. You can carefully lay out the clusters in one layer in a box covered with thick paper or on racks, also covered with dry material (sawdust of hardwood, straw). With such storage methods, check the condition of the brushes daily and remove the damaged berries, otherwise the mold will quickly spread to the neighboring ones.
How to store tropical fruits
All sorts of tender tropical fruits - bananas, citrus fruits, melons, pineapples, pomegranates, persimmon, kiwi, etc. - they do not like refrigerators, they dampen them there, lose their aroma and taste, absorb foreign smells. Such fruits are best kept at a temperature of 8-13 ° C, you can - each wrapped in paper.
In order to preserve a bunch of bananas for longer, it is also advised that the upper part (coupled legs) be wrapped with cling film.
